Professor Jianping Fan is a professor in the Department of Computer Science, University of North Carolina, Charlotte. His research interests include Multimedia Indexing and Retrieval, Multimedia Privacy Protection and Access Control, Statistical Machine Learning for Multimedia Understanding, Big Data Analytics & Healthcare Informatics. He has published 63 papers on top Journals: (a) Tier 1 Journals (22): IEEE Trans. (15), ACM Trans. (2), Pattern Recognition (6); (b) Tier 2 Journals (36): IEEE Multimedia (2),Multimedia Tools and Applications (7), Multimedia Systems (6), et al.; (c) Tier 3 Journals(5): Pattern Recognition Letters (2), et al. He has obtained 18 research grants from national and international funding agencies and industries.
报告提纲:
In this talk, I will introduce our research progress on large-scale visual recognition (recognizing thousands of object classes rather than few hundreds), which comes from our last 5 years team work. To support large-scale visual recognition, we should deal with four inter-related challenging issues: (a) how to generate large-scale image collections to handle both huge intra-class visual variations and huge inter-class visual similarities; (b) how to organize large numbers of object classes, especially when they have strong inter-class visual similarities; (c) how to train dictionaries to achieve more effective representation of image content; and (d) how to train large-scale inter-related classifiers to achieve large-scale visual recognition. In this presentation, I will demonstrate our solutions and thoughts for these 4 challenging issues. These works are published on IEEE Trans. PAMI, IEEE Trans. Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, IEEE Trans. Multimedia, IEEE CVPR, WWW, IEEE ICCV.
